WAGS With Handbag Obsessions

From the British trash drama “Footballer`s Wives” to the Italian Paparazzi to Sports Illustrated—in the time between the last World Cup in 2006 and this one in South Africa, we`ve seen the emergence of the football WAG (British slang for “Wives and Girlfriends”). And why wouldn`t we? Soccer wives are fascinating—they`re more often than not models, or could be; they`re all millionaires; scandals abound; they travel in packs; and wear whatever fashion is hot at the moment…completely irregardless of price. Who wouldn`t want to hear the gossip?  While I`m not necessarily interested in who`s sleeping with who`s team mate, I`m just loving the handbag sighting during this World Cup.

Victoria Beckham (Husband: David Beckham)

Victoria Beckham may be old news, (and absent from South Africa thanks to David Beckham`s Achilles tendon injury) but she`s still the queen WAG when it comes to designer handbags. Beckham reportedly owns $2 million dollars worth of Hermes Birkin bags. Just Birkins! We`ve all seen her with several Louis Vuitton handbags too, so there`s no telling how much her entire collection is worth.

Coleen Rooney (Husband: Wayne Rooney)

I am no fan of Coleen Rooney`s style…this frumpy look is in fact one of her less embarrassing outfits, but check out this vintage Chanel tote! This is one of the all time classics and would still look good on the arm of an “ugly pageant” winner. Coleen`s main claim to fame is how much of her husband`s 25 million pound salary she spends on, well, Chanel handbags for one.
