I had a riot writing this article. Here’s the idea: First I picked the 3 ladies I feel are most likely to win the best actress award at the Oscars next week. (Don’t agree? I’d love to debate this one, I get so excited for the Oscars!) Then I did a little style profile of them, as well as their character in the movie. Then I picked a handbag designer and style for each. I should be a film stylist! I just loved it. So, which leading lady are you? A casual Ms. Bullock? A royal Ms. Streep, or a boyish, art school Carey Mulligan? Are you all about Gucci handbags? Louis Vuitton handbags? Or is it Burberry for you?

Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side)

Real Life—Take No Bullock!

All things considered, the beautiful Sandra Bullock is a homebody at heart. Urban, yes. Youthful, sure. But, whenever you catch her really comfortable it’s casually dressed, neutral colours, a pair of jeans and a practical bag. She’s wearing Coach in the pics above, and I say go girl! Frankly, I love it! It’s nice to see a Hollywood leading lady who doesn’t go to the grocery store in pumps and pearls.

The Character—Le Anne Tuohy

I have to admit, I love this character and could fully relate. I thought she was just gorgeous. And I recently found out Le Anne is real! The Blind Side is actually a true story, and somewhere in Memphis Ms. Tuohy is walking around with a Gucci Jockey bag, I’m sure of it! This woman is all Gucci. I bet she’d branch out into the Guccissima leather a little, but mostly stick to beige GG fabric bags—classic, and it’s so her. Check it out in the first few seconds of the trailer:

Personally I really hope Sandra Bullock wins this award. I just loved this movie. It touched me very deeply, and I could relate somehow. The clothes and bags are totally fun to watch too. Picture a mother of 2 (now 3!) whose all work-work but puts the time into looking foxy all the time (and has the money to do it!).

Merryl Streep (Julie & Julia)

Real Life—Queen Streep

Maybe it’s just her reputation but I always picture Merryl Streep cascading down a curvy staircase in a royal blue velvet gown with a crown and someone to carry her flowing train. Ok, so surely that’s not her life, but still, I’d say this is a woman in her 60’s who gets what she wants, knows what she wants and dresses accordingly—always majestic, never trying to hard. In this case my style profile suggests the same as her character in the film (Julia Child). Definitely Louis Vuitton Handbags. Something Suhali? Epi? I could also see her in Taiga for a businessy look or Sobe when she wants some zazz!

The Character—Julia Child

Paris in the 1950’s? Elegant American lady about town in France, who’s full of charisma and beautiful but not exactly a bombshell with endless legs and an hourglass frame? Louis Vuitton, no question. My pick is anything from the Louis Vuitton Suhali or Epi Leather handbag collections. In fact, I cheated. Though I haven’t seen this film yet, I did see the trailer and caught a glimpse of what I think is a Montaigne and maybe even an Absolu bag from the Louis Vuitton Suhali line. This one was easy!

Carey Mulligan (An Education)

Real Life—Fresh Faced Carey

One word: Chanel. If I were to give Carey Mulligan style advice I’d say dance a little to the chic side and dress it up with a Chanel handbag. I’d almost say she’s more of a Chloe girl but I feel like that’s too predictable given her short hair, soft features, tom-boy kind of look. If you’re a Carey Mulligan type I say go Chloe when you’re feeling casual, go Chanel when you want to make a splash.

The Character—Jenny Miller

Burberry handbag. No question. I see the Burberry tartan all over this girl. Sure she’s British, young, and has a little of that old world—brown, beige and cream kind of look but there’s something more to it even—a mystery! A nice Burberry bag is exactly what this look calls for…she’d wear it all the way to Paris.
