The famed Gucci Tippy evening clutch
Tips on Accessorizing a Handbag With an Outfit
Okay, it’s official: my obsession with bags has reached new and extravagant heights. Let me explain: the other day I was choosing an outfit for my friend’s wedding, an undeniably important event, and I was completely hitting a wall – you know when you end up pulling everything you own out on to the bed and suddenly four hours have passed, the kids are hungry, you’re hungry, and all you can think is ‘oh I wish I had bought those leggings in EVERY color!’ – I think we’ve all been there.
So I was completely stumped until I caught a shimmer of light coming from my pursedrobe – it was my cherished Gucci Tippy evening replica clutch that I bought earlier this year off an elite replica site. BAM! I was immediately inspired! The ideas just came flowing out after that first glimpse of the ultimate accessory – a perfect bag.
First the Bag, Then the Outfit
Then I asked myself: is that all our precious bags are to us – accessories? Surely my Tippy clutch was the foundation for my entire (and fabulous, by the way) wedding look; it was the impetus for a great outfit. This got me thinking: why not instead of putting together an outfit and then finding a bag to match, do the exact opposite and co-ordinate an entire outfit to a stunning handbag?
For the past week now I have been doing just this and omg it is so much fun! I am completely hooked and want all those purse-lovers out there to try it out. Here are a few simple tips from a recent and enthusiastic convert.
1. Take the time to study your handbag
Art is in the observation, so take a good hard look at your muse. Does it have sequins, studs, beading, weaving, roping, braiding? Every little detail is valuable and often little details like a metallic clasp or colored piping can inspire the whole look.
2. Let the bag take center stage
Sometimes the problem isn’t that there’s not enough inspiration, but that there is too much. Try choosing one detail and going with it – a fleck of color, metal, fringe – but don’t go too crazy with the clothes, keep it al about the bag, ensuring that the outfit supports the bag.
3. Try to keep the bag and the outfit in the same style
If it’s a hobo bag, keep it casual, but trendy, if it’s a clutch it is probably gonna be evening wear, a messenger is inherently sporty, the Boston or LV carry-all is perfect for a ‘resort’ look (even if we can’t afford the resort). This one may seem obvious, but it’s definitely important.
4. Have fun!
Fashion is joyous and exhilarating! So get into it and break all my rules if you feel like it.
Here’s an example of what I’m talking about:

The Gucci Babouska Boston. Try it with this London Fog Trench and Top Shop lacey black dress.
