It’s Fashion week here in New York City and I’m losing my mind for all the excitement. Just like last year, the hottest ticket of the week is the Gucci party, and the hottest rumour is that the host of this year’s Gucci gala, Mary J Blige, may be teaming up with the Italian designer to design a run of Gucci handbags

Blige & Gucci Handbags Rumor or Reality?

At this point it’s all pure speculation but with good reason. Mary J Blige is the host of this year’s party at the Gucci flagship store on 5th Avenue to take place next Wednesday, September 16th.. The R&B star and the designer have teamed up to support Blige’s charity FFAWN (Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now) a foundation that supports women’s rights. Sales of Blige’s Gucci watch of choice, the Gucci Twirl, will go in part to the foundation across the US and Canada.

While none of this means Mary J Blige will necessarily design or star in ad campaigns for Gucci handbags that is exactly what happened last year when Gucci teamed up with Rihanna to support Unicef. Rihanna ended up featured in a commercial, in several photo ads and singing at the Gucci handbags event that completely stole the limelight at last year’s NY fashion week.

Last year at fashion week Gucci’s mega party on the United Nations lawn hosted by Madonna was also the talk of the town. Mary J Blige is pictured above with her vinyl Gucci purse and her bodyguard husband attending the event. This may have been when the seed was sown for this year’s collaboration.

Today the blogs are burning with the idea that Mary J. Blige may be the next celebrity to team up with Gucci handbags. As a powerful performer, with a noble, almost royal persona Blige seems to be just the right kind of image to power the Gucci bags name. I personally would love to see her in next season’s Gucci ads.
