Gucci handbags and Alexander McQueen

Rest in Peace

The fashion world lost a true original this month. Alexander McQueen, known as one of the fashion world’s edgiest bad boys was found dead due to an apparent suicide by hanging at his home on Feb 11. He was 40. His death followed the passing of his mother earlier in the year, as well as his mentor’s suicide in 2007. I thought it would be important to dedicate a post to the passing of one of fashion’s greatest and most interesting characters, who contributed so much to the fashion world, and in particular to the Gucci brand.

Turning Gucci Handbags Inside-out

In the early 2000s, the Alexander McQueen brand was bought by the Gucci luxury conglomerate. Although McQueen’s brand never became as profitable as their classic lines of Gucci handbags, he was integral to establishing Gucci Group as a company with an edge. His idiosyncratic take on fashion and bad-boy mystique were just what the brand needed to stay on the avant-garde of fashion in the eyes of the fashion world, where McQueen is often sited as the pinnacle of British creativity. In my opinion, Gucci owes a lot to the man, who preferred to avoid mainstream commercialism.

Fashion Rock Star: McQueen’s Indelible Mark

Gucci

Alexander McQueen’s early collections included his trademark “bumster” trouser in his spring 1995 collection. This spearheaded the trend of low-rise pants, which we can all agree was pretty revolutionary (the stack of low-rise jeans still lining my closet can attest to this). This early work caught the attention of Bernard Arnault, chairman of Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, who hired him in 1996 as creative chair of Givenchy. But the majority of the clothes he put on the runway weren’t as wearable as his low-rise trousers. For McQueen, fashion was truly an art form, and that often meant that practicality and wearability came second. This wildly creative output was embraced by such flamboyant pop stars as Lady Gaga and Rihanna. His shows featured such theatrics as models being spray-painted by robots or navigating through snow in a simulated blizzard, comprising some of the most memorable catwalk spectacles of all time.

Alexander McQueen was more than a simple fashion designer, he was a rock star of the fashion world, and for that he will truly be missed. Every time a Louis Vuitton handbag or Gucci dress steps slightly out of bounds into the realm of the surreal or the fantastic, you can bet that the spirit of Alexander McQueen is to be thanked for it. What do you think of McQueen’s controversial body of work?

    Sofia,

What site would you recommend to purchase the LV purse charms? It seems like those aren’t being as replicated I guess. I can’t imagine paying $300-$500 for a charm!!

    thanks

Ahh…I still haven’t found anything good. I am on the look out though!

      • Dee ~ 02/21/2010 at 8:22 pm

Hi ladies, they are available in replica!!!! Whoopeee, aren’t we glad we’ve got each other….lol, alright, as far as I know they are on the sites under the jewelry section – lv. I believe replicavalley has them, I believe I saw them when I was looking at their jewelry selection and the site I’ve frequented which is bags-replicas, they are also under an umbrella of names, honey replica, etc. I’ve purchased from them 3 times and haven’t been dissatisfied yet. I just purchased my fav the damier azur neverfull (yay!!!) HTH

    Dear Sophia,
In response to your article on the footballers wife with the “fake Louis Vuitton” I think… anyway, how did she become a trillionaire? Was it the modeling-or the marriage to the footballer or both? I am an American, sorry but our footballers are different-not sure is that is good or bad…just trying to understand if there is a difference. In any case, apparently we have a ballsy golfer in the US. I do feel sorry for his gorgeous wife, Elan, and their two children. Particularly as there was talk that his father treated him the same way, he should remember the emotional pain. Im sure all the happiness the world can not buy does not make up for a Dad who was never around and busy with every woman but Mom, just like Grand pa!

Wow, that’s sad! Never was into McQueen though. I don’t mean to go off subject but I sent you an email on the 18th but didn’t hear back from you so I’ll copy it here:

    Dear Sofia,

S.O.S! Can’t deal with this anymore. As I’d posted on your review site and spending hours each night going through all the suggested websites for the best replicas, I’ve just stumbled through a mall store who carries my dream bag! ARTSY GM!!!! However, I have no idea if this site is legit or if their quality is good. The pic of this bag posted seem like the real authentic one (along with many others) , but they’re claiming all to be their own pictures and same items to be recieved. Been in the business long time, based in Europe, Asia, USA, only sells the best etc……. Their review seems to be positive as well. Could you please check their pics? I’d like to purchase LV Artsy GM, Speedy 25, and Gucci Sukey Large. Their dememsions are identical to the originals to the last cm, and pics look flawless!

Please let me know if you’d recommend this site. The Artsy GM is not even out yet as you said but they have the replica already and if the pic is their own, OMG, it’s GORGEOUS!!!!!

Please let me know………….thanks as always.

    • Joanne ~ 02/20/2010 at 10:31 am

Ok, ladies (and gents), this site does NOT use their own pics. They wrote me back and said …”sometimes if they don’t have good pics for a specific item then they use someone else’s”…well that does it for me! At least they were honest. How can you trust buying from them if they don’t protray what you’ll be receiving? They also have 8-9 sister sites. I will definitely forget them! Sofia, don’t bother looking up, save your time, unless you have a diff opinion.

      • Sofia ~ 02/21/2010 at 7:40 am

Hey Joane what site are you talking about?

    • Sofia ~ 02/21/2010 at 7:49 am

      Hey Joane,

Sorry for the delay I don’t usually get time to answer on Thursday and Friday’s they are busy days for me. I looked at that that site and I have to tell you the pictures are a scam. They are stolen from the original LV site. Also I would guess if the dimensions are exactly correct that they are not measuring the bag in their stock just copying the description from the original LV site. Plus I have to say that you are safer on more professional sites. I am waiting for the the Artsy GM to show up on http://www.replicavalley.com I am going to email them and see what the hold up is.

    Sofia,

What do you think of : http://justliketherealthing.net/ ???

    • Sofia ~ 02/21/2010 at 7:42 am

This must be the site that ‘borrows’ pictures. Definitely a no no in my books.

  5. maria ~ 02/20/2010 at 11:42 am

Hi Sofia, quick ? . Is the quality and color of the brass exactly the same on the monogram canvas galliera bag on replicavalley site, the same as the orginal LV bag? And have you ordered that bag or any of theier bags with that brass? Your the best !!! Thanks….

    • Sofia ~ 02/21/2010 at 7:38 am

I have orders lots of LV bags from replicavalley.com The quality of the brass is exceptional.

  6. maria ~ 02/20/2010 at 11:44 am

Also how long does it take and can i help to oxides the bag faster? Thanks Sofia

    • Sofia ~ 02/21/2010 at 7:38 am

Not that I know of….hmmm… it takes a few months to become really golden

  7. Chimicki ~ 02/21/2010 at 11:53 am

    Sofia,

I have been perusing Replicavalley and they have a very good selection. I am currently looking at the LV Damier Galliera for the summertime. Is this real leather that they use on these bags or a leather mix? Also, will this leather oxidize over time? I have a couple of authentic LV bags and I know they go through a patina process. The more it’s in the sun the quicker they oxidize. Also, with the gold plate that is on the front of this particular bag will it be the exact mirrror image of the original or should I look for it to be different? Just curious. I appreciate your weath of knowledge. I’m just a little nervous that’s all. Thanks!

    • Sofia ~ 02/21/2010 at 1:47 pm

They definitely use real leather and to the beat of my knowledge the plaTe is the same.

    Hi,

I went on http://www.popular-bags.com as it was recommended by Monica in an earlier thread, and found that they had some of the same bags as http://www.deluxepurse.com! Both have their own website’s names on the photos – so which one owns the pictures? Thoroughly confused.

    Please help!

    Thanks!

    • JW ~ 02/22/2010 at 2:01 pm

Oops, I meant both had some of the same PHOTOS..

  9. Diane ~ 02/22/2010 at 5:14 pm

Hi, do you know any good shop to buy Dior replicas? replicavalley offers only one bag :(

  10. mike ~ 02/23/2010 at 7:15 am

just an update- got my wife’s speedy 35 from a seller on Ioffer- very impressed- no loose stiching… i put that one next too her old beat up monogram speedy to kinda compare quality- and to be homest- i did not see much of a diff – and i was looking it was held up in customs for a month!!!- – very well made for 100.00!!!! leather oxidates over time and I looked at the lv pics on the official site and her bag- maybe slight diffs- at first my wife was skeptical about carrying a fake bag- but then we said- its an accsessory to an outfit… woo hoo for replicas

    • Sheila ~ 02/23/2010 at 8:25 am

Do you have the link to the seller you purchased from on ioffer?? I would like to check them out. Thanks

I appreciate this posting – I made a comment in tribute to McQueen on my facebook page and I’m not sure anyone even knew who I was talking about… I’m from Iowa, what can I say? I loved McQueen – but my most favorite, I’ll say – performance – was His Fall/Winter 2009 show – and that is in fact what really drew me to his work. I could watch that one over and over. So I was a short-term fan but a fan nonetheless. I was really looking forward to his next show and couldn’t wait to see what would come next. How sad that there won’t be a next. Though his life was short – what a huge impact he made. How sad that it had to end there.
